  • Overview

    Prepares structural calculations, drawings, sketches, and performs or oversees production drawings for assigned projects in accordance with standards (i.e., AASHTO, NYSDOT, AREMA, NYSTA and etc.) and department procedures.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Perform analysis and design of various bridge systems, using STAAD, SAP2000, Merlin-Dash, LEAP and MDXK, MathCAD and other structural design packages;
    • Have knowledge of non-linear analysis and material behavior to perform seismic design;
    • Conduct analysis and design for bridges, viaducts, dams, locks, tunnels and retaining walls;
    • Perform structural calculations (steel, concrete, and pre-stressed concrete);
    • Prepare detailed engineering reports and assist in developing project standards and specifications;
    • Prepare or oversee production drawings and details, utilizing AutoCAD or Microstation;
    • Perform field investigations & surveys under guidance of senior staff;
    • Prepare preliminary and final designs from field notes and data files;
    • Read and interpret engineering sketches, maps, survey field notes, aerial photographs and drawings;
    • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and analyzing material costs, quality and quantity.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) required from an engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc (EAC/ABET). Must have education in the design of steel and concrete and structural analysis.  Requires knowledge of Structural design and analysis software, including STAAD, SAP2000 or Merlin-Dash. Experience with MathCAD, AutoCAD and Microstation a plus. Must possess excellent technical skills. Excellent references required.
