Overview

T.Y. Lin International is seeking a Planner to provide in-house engineering and planning to the City of Chicago’s Department of Transportation (CDOT) expanded Bicycle Program.

Responsibilities

Performing or assisting with the following duties:

  • Managing federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grants.
  • Coordinating with city staff and outside agencies to provide bicycle facilities in conjunction with other ongoing projects.
  • Coordinating with aldermanic offices to secure funding and approvals for bicycle facilities.
  • Preparing bicycle facility engineering design plans including bicycle pavement marking and signage plans in Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
  • Utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) software to track bicycle facility projects and to develop databases that can be used to prioritize improvements.
  • Preparing graphic illustrations of bicycle facilities and plans using the Adobe suite of software products.
  • Develop and make presentations at public and internal meetings.
  • Preparing project documents including plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Performing intersection capacity analyses using Synchro traffic modeling software.
  • Planning and designing innovative bicycle facilities and presenting at public and agency meetings.
  • Collecting data and performing field observations at project sites.
  • Working with elected and appointed officials and citizen groups to resolve planning and design issues with bicycle facilities.
  • Communicate bicycle guidelines, policy, standards and requirements with citizens, elected and appointed officials and other professionals.
  • Suggesting city policy changes related to bicycle issues.
  • Supervising seasonal and part-time staff.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or related field. AICP certification preferred. Requires two to ten years of related experience. Strong interest and experience in urban bicycling. Passion to improve non-motorized transportation and create Complete Streets. Experience with CAD, Synchro, GIS and Adobe Creative Suite Package software, or ability to learn any of the noted software packages.
