  • Overview

    T.Y. Lin International is seeking a Project Civil Engineer to support both site and transportation groups in our Rochester, NY office. The position requires technical education in Civil Engineering that will aid in implementing site and transportation design elements.

    The primary role of the Engineer is performing engineering design, analysis and calculations and preparing plans and specifications. The position will support the engineering team as a contributing member with various engineering and project duties, including, but not limited to: perform calculations; create design concepts and engineering drawings; provide design and engineering analysis; develop plans; develop and check specifications; create and review cost analysis and bidding documents; draft schedules; create and review field documents; make site reviews and other engineering related activities.

    The primary duties of this position rely upon advanced knowledge and application of basic and integrated engineering principles, fundamental theories, engineering techniques and procedures. This position depends upon the ability to collaborate with other project team members and the ability to apply discretion and independent judgement in the performance of the essential job duties.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Must be able and willing to assist with a variety of work tasks for both site and transportation groups.
    • Collaborate with the project team to perform project analysis on technical aspects of the design.
    • Read and interpret engineering plans, maps, survey field notes, aerial photographs and drawings.
    • Prepare engineering design calculations and reports for various site/civil/transportation projects.
    • Ability to perform calculations utilizing various site/civil/transportation engineering software packages.
    • Prepare and present routine technical/engineering reports.
    • Perform design research to develop recommendations for approaches, concepts, materials or equipment selection.
    • Prepare project drawings consistent with company standards and in compliance with municipal and agency requirements. Drawing preparation utilizing MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil3D Software.
    • Review and comply with production work-plans, production schedules and production budgets.
    • Work with project managers to establish staffing plans, work schedules, contract budgets and scopes of work.
    • Comply with and participate in all company quality and safety programs
    • Coordination with review/approval agencies.
    • Perform geometric roadway design, drainage and grading design and plans, signing and marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, erosion control/MS4 plans and construction cost estimating.
    • Prepare site plan packages for varies residential/commercial site development projects for review by local approval agencies.
    • Prepare utility extension/service design for various residential/commercial/municipal utilities (gas, water, sanitary, telecommunication, electric, etc.).
    • Prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and stormwater design in accordance with NYS Stormwater Management Design Manual for both site and transportation projects.
    • Additional related assignments as required.

     

     

    Qualifications

     

    Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering degree from an ABET accredited undergraduate or graduate program. EIT certification preferred. Two to Five years’ experience in site/civil/transportation projects is preferred. Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment required. Knowledge of engineering and/or design software (such as MicroStation, InRoads, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Autoturn, StormCAD/HydroCAD, etc.) is strongly preferred. Knowledge of NYSDOT policies and procedures a plus. Experience with SEQRA preparation preferred. Must be skilled in position competencies including: Technical Ability, Quality Focus, Results Focus, Analytic Thinking, Continuous Learning, Time Management and Teamwork.
