  • Overview

    The Civil/Highway Engineer will assist on transportation projects working in a team environment for implementation of roadway design elements including preparation of plans, specifications and estimates. The Civil/Highway Engineer will also utilize knowledge and skills associated with Roadway Geometrics, Grading, Paving, Drainage, Guide Rail, Signage, Striping and Maintenance of Traffic. Participation in work sharing with other local T.Y. Lin offices may be required.

    Responsibilities

    • Work on transportation infrastructure improvement projects;

     

    • Assist in the design of horizontal and vertical geometry, intersections, roadside safety features, ADA curb ramps, driveway modifications, storm water management, guide rail, new pavements, pavement restorations, cross sections, utility relocations, construction staging and maintenance/protection of traffic;
    • Perform field inspections, if necessary, to evaluate and assess the condition of roadways, drainage facilities, guide rail, and other transportation infrastructure;
    • Assist in the preparation of contract documents, including design plans, specifications and quantity and cost estimates for clients including major Highway Agencies, and various counties;
    • Will assist the design team on a variety of projects and will have direct communication with members of different design disciplines;

     

    • Perform additional related assignments as required

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required. A minimum of 1 - 4 years’ experience is required in civil and roadway design tasks and use of CADD for plan production. Candidate must be able to obtain PE licensing in the future (if not already obtained). Must be conversant in MicroStation and Inroads and demonstrate skills with use of various drainage software. Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills are essential. Must be willing and able to work in a team environment.
