  • Overview

    T.Y. Lin International is seeking a mid to senior level Mechanical engineer with specialty in Fire Protection. This person will independently design, perform calculations and write reports for fire protection, life safety, and emergency ventilation systems on commercial, institutional and industrial projects for federal, state and private sector clients.

    Responsibilities

    • Design fire protection systems, including fire suppression and emergency ventilation systems
    • Conduct building fire protection, code and life safety evaluations for new and existing facilities
    • Conduct Fire and Life safety analysis based on the different potential fire scenarios
    • Prepare technical reports and studies
    • Design HVAC systems for both normal and emergency operation modes.
    • Advise and give support to multi-discipline staff on fire protection / emergency ventilation principals and requirements
    • Review other discipline designs to ensure coordination and compliance to all fire protection requirement 
    • Attend meetings and perform construction field visits as required
    • Meet with fire Marshalls and code officials
    • Perform hydrant flow tests
    • Work within a team or on an individual basis
    • Mentor junior engineers in Fire Protection design and application
    • Serve as team leaser for projects that are predominately fire protection in nature 
    • Smoke control rational analysis and hazardous material analysis

    Qualifications

    • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Fire Protection Professional (FPE) registration is desirable.

     

    • Minimum (5-10) years of experience in designing and analyzing fire suppression and HVAC/ Emergency ventilation systems

     

    • Experience in application and interpretation of NFPA standards (with focus on life safety standards) and other state and federal codes

     

    • NFPA Fire Protection Specialist certification is desirable.

     

    • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and experience in performing cooling load calculations using Trane Trace and/or HAP.

     

    • AutoCAD and Revit experience is required.

     

    • Experience in hydraulic sprinkler system calculations and analysis using HASS, Pipe flowor Fathom

     

    • Must be able to read and analyze Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling reports. Experience with performing such modeling is highly desirable.

     

    • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.  

     

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
