  • Overview

    T.Y. Lin International's San Diego office is seeking a Assistant Bridge Engineer who will assist in the analysis, design and plan production for bridge and related transportation structure projects. The hired candidate will support the engineering team’s development of construction bid documents. Knowledge of AASHTO and Caltrans bridge design specifications is a plus.


    • Perform structural design and analysis for bridge structures using approved computer programs and manual computations in accordance with accepted bridge design practice and design specifications and guidelines.
    • Perform quantity take-offs and cost estimates for project budgeting and evaluation of alternatives.
    • Perform geometric layout.
    • Develop structural details for non-standard bridge components.
    • Review production of drawings by CAD technicians.
    • Perform independent checking of structural designs and plans.
    • Perform design calculations, analysis using engineering formulas for designing bridge structures culverts and retaining walls.
    • Research and review design options for both technical & economic impact.
    • Assist in preparing plans, specifications and estimates to DOT standards.
    • Other assignments as needed.


    Master’s degree with bridge design experience desired. Ability to obtain PE license within one year is required. 2+ years of related experience desired. Applicant should be familiar with the design and construction of highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges. Experience with structural software packages, including SAP, CT Bridge, and LARSA, as well as experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation a plus. Must possess excellent technical and communication skills.
