  • Overview

    The Transportation Engineer is responsible for the coordination and implementation of surface transportation design elements including preparation of plans, specifications and estimates. The Transportation Engineer will also provide expertise and have strong skills associated with Roadway Geometrics, Grading, Paving, Drainage, Guide/Guard Rail, Signalization, Signage and Maintenance of Traffic.


    • Assist in the design and production of transportation project documents
    • Responsible for technical elements of highway engineering projects.
    • Preparation of contract documents including Plans, Specifications and Estimates.
    • Coordination with client, subconsultants, other disciplines and the public.
    • Responsible for oversight of engineering and technical support staff.
    • Prepare comprehensive engineering reports.
    • Provide expertise in geometric design, safety engineering, drainage and grading, signage and striping, maintenance of traffic and construction cost estimating.
    • Create plans and drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
    • Organize and maintain project files.
    • Additional duties as assigned.


    Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and 5+ years experience in highway design. Requires an Engineer in Training certificate. Strong knowledge of MaineDOT policies and procedures is preferred (Maine Turnpike experience is a plus). Proficient in MicroStation, Inroads and other highway engineering software (AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is a plus). Excellent oral and written communication skills are a plus. Maine PE license preferred.
