  • Overview

    Perform structural design and analysis for bridge and transportation-related structures in accordance with design specifications and guidelines under direction of senior structural engineers. This position occasionally may require inspection of structural elements in existing structures, sometimes in confined spaces. Candidates for this position should be able to meet the physical requirements of this type of assignment. Work is reviewed by professional engineering personnel through oral and written reports and by inspection.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the project team in developing plans, specifications, and design documents within the transportation infrastructure market.
    • Perform inspection of structural elements of transportation structures (bridges, retaining walls, drainage structures, buildings), sometimes in confined spaces under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Perform detailed calculations and analysis.
    • Follow operations through a series of related details, steps or processes using design criteria and established engineering formulas.
    • Ensure conformance to design and specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards, research code issues, and document findings.
    • Create plans and drawings using structural design software, GeoPak and Micro Station.
    • Organize and maintain project files.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (A Master’s Degree is a plus) and Engineer In Training certification. May be entry level with relevant internships to 2 years of structural design experience with bridges, buildings, and transportation related projects. Knowledge of Illinois DOT policies and proficiency with various structural design and analysis software are a plus.
