  • Overview

    The Senior Structural Engineer plans and conducts work on projects requiring judgment, independent evaluation, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. He applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of structural engineering assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in project meetings in order to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.  This position requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of engineering and disciplines. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work results from progressive experience. Participation in work sharing with other T.Y. Lin offices may be required.

    Responsibilities

    • Acts in a technical supervisory capacity and provides direction to a team of structural engineers.
    • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs structural engineering projects and assignments.
    • Supervises the development of contract documents, including plans, specifications and quantity/cost estimates.
    • Uses client visitations as an opportunity to identify possible added or new work.
    • Assists as requested in preparing proposals.
    • Serves as structural engineering technical leader on large multi-disciplinary projects.
    • Assists in confirming scope, schedule, budget, and resources needed. Assists in preparing man-hour requirements/estimates as needed.
    • Provides task assignment input weekly (daily if needed) and follows budget guidelines that are provided.
    • Follows schedule guidelines. Assumes responsibility for multi-task deliverable production on projects. Provides progress report input when requested.
    • Follows communications plan that includes guidelines for internal and external distribution as directed.
    • Carries out QA/QC plan requirements and follows plan for document control.
    • Identifies extra work to Project Manager.
    • Responds to project audits.
    • Provides input for extra work proposal preparation.
    • Helps to update resumes.
    • Assures technical execution of technical tasks per scope of work.
    • Serves as technical expert.
    • Helps to maintain technical proficiency of team members.
    • Keeps company personnel abreast of regulations.
    • Working knowledge of CAD platform such as Microstation or AutoCAD

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent, plus appropriate continuing education.   PE License is required.  Minimum six to eight years’ experience in Structural Engineering.
