Our Oakland office is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer, Rail + Transit for rail and transit related projects. This position will report to the Sector Manager and will require eight year of experience in civil engineering.



  • Perform civil engineering duties in the preparation of engineering design plans and specifications.
  • Perform engineering design calculations; prepare engineering design drawings and specifications, calculations, and construction cost estimates; and provide design support during construction.
  • Inspect equipment or facility; analyze and provide recommendations for engineering solutions, repairs, modifications, or maintenance.
  • Review and respond to engineering submittals, drawings and specifications prepared by outside agencies for construction projects adjacent to District facilities.
  • Prepare and coordinate the preparation of construction feasibility studies and cost estimates; define scope and develop conceptual plans; prepare civil engineering design project proposals for management review and approval.
  • Review contractor submittals for conformance to drawings and specifications; interpret plans and specifications; prepare and direct needed design contract revisions and change orders.
  • Initiate and evaluate design and field environment changes during construction; take field measurements of completed work; inspect construction at substantial and final completion stages.
  • Prepare engineering reports, manuals, and other correspondence related to work activities.
  • As assigned, conduct field inspections, site investigations and field materials testing duties.
  • Deliverables include:
    • Plans, specifications, estimates.
    • Project scopes, criteria, budgets and schedules.
    • Design calculations.
    • Engineering reports and manuals.
    • Submittal reviews, Change Orders.
    • Field measurements.
    • Construction feasibility studies. 
    • Other deliverables as requested.


  • Civil Engineer will have Professional Engineering (PE) license in the State of California.
  • Eight years of full-time equivalent verifiable professional civil engineering experience.
  • At a minimum a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, and to physically perform site visits along facilities during non-revenue hours, including walking along uneven surfaces during all weather conditions.
  • BART experience is preferred.
