Affiliated with our Falmouth, ME office, TYLin is seeking a Highway Engineer with Transportation design experience.  The Highway Engineer provides engineering design / support to the Roadway Group Supervisor and the department’s other Project Managers.  Tasks include, but are not limited to, developing geometric alignments, profiles, modeling, design sections, grading design, drainage, construction details, traffic signal plans, and signing and striping plans. Experience managing tasks and interacting with external clients is also preferred.


  • Perform roadway-related calculations and design, including the design of horizontal and vertical geometry, intersections, roadside safety features, ADA curb ramps, driveway modifications, storm water management, new pavements, pavement restorations, cross sections, utility relocations, construction staging, and maintenance/protection of traffic.
  • Perform field inspections, if necessary, to evaluate and assess the condition of roadways, drainage facilities, guardrail, and other transportation infrastructure.
  • Prepare contract documents, including design plans, specifications, and quantity/cost estimates for clients such as major highway agencies, and various counties/municipalities.
  • Participates with assigned design team on a variety of projects and have direct communication with members of different design disciplines.
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, and memos for development of projects.
  • Organize and maintain project files.
  • Potential roadway and civil design support to be performed on projects in other parts of the Roads + Highways Sector.
  • Assure that drawings and design are in accordance with company production and design standards, follow Quality Assurance and Control procedures
  • Other assignments as needed.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT) and the Professional Engineer’s Exam required. Ability to obtain licensure in the State of Maine and Massachusetts required.
  • 4-10 years of professional experience required.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel and in Bentley software MicroStation and InRoads.
  • Experience with AutoCAD / Civil3D/ GeoPak and /or Open Roads Designer is a plus.
  • Experience with MaineDOT or MassDOT projects is desirable.
  • Candidates must be strong communicators, well organized, and proficient at technical writing.
